If I make Christmas gifts in jars with layers of nuts and chocolate, how long will the jar last unspoiled?
I have shelled pistachios, cashews, almond pumpkin cashew clusters, unwrapped chocolate truffles and wrapped peanut butter cups. Once assembled, how long will the chocolate and nuts go inside the jars without spoiling?
Nice idea! I'm picturing a really wide-mouthed jar, with these pretty layers of your items. As long as the jar is well sealed, you shouldn't have to worry about spoilage. These are items that last as long as they are stored well.
I would consider a little change though. The pistachios shouldn't be shelled. That's one of my favorite snack nuts. But I've never found any shelled (meaning the shell is removed) that are as good as GOOD quality pistachios WITH the shells. So I would get the pistachios not already shelled.
The other thing that would be super nice, is if you make some of your nut mixtures yourself... not already made. You didn't say if that's what you're doing, so I apologize if I'm suggesting something you were doing anyway. There are some wonderful recipes for spiced, candied pecans, and also some great recipes for all other kinds of nuts.
